The 1940 team played just six games, but won them all. But Bill really stood out on the baseball diamond, where he starred for the school’s first baseball team his senior year. He was the starting fullback who played a key role on the 1939 football team that went undefeated. Now known more for his philanthropy, Bill was revered in the late 1930’s for his accomplishments on the athletic fields. He is also a member of the Rockhurst Basketball All-Time Team.īill is one of the longest lifetime supporters of Rockhurst High School. Patrick led the Hawklets to the State Tournament twice and was a constant name on the All-District list. Other accolades included breaking the 10-year-old record for points in a game, when he scored 37 during his senior campaign. He accounted for 40% of the team’s scoring in the 1960-61 season. He was a three-year starter, averaging 12 PPG as a sophomore, 20 PPG as a junior and more than 24 PPG as a senior, along with 13 rebounds per game. Despite constantly double-teamed as a junior and senior, he still managed to be The Rock’s leading scorer both years. But on the basketball court is truly where Patrick shined. He was rewarded with All-District honors as a senior. On the football field, he was a blocking tight end who helped lead the Hawklets to a 19-6-3 record during his three years on the squad. He was a 6’6” three sport athlete who, between football, basketball and track, never wanted to take a season off. Patrick was the ever-rare athletic big man.
